About the Author
In 1991, Cyan began work on Myst, a project that would expand the world of computer entertainment. The goal was to use what they had learned building the successful worlds for children, to create a whole new world for everyone. Rather than being followers and simply re-purposing existing content from other media for CD-ROM, they would build from scratch a world that would take advantage of everything the vast new medium had to offer. The results were staggering.

I highly recommend these novels to those that have played any or ...

To preface, this book is definitely one that I've had some familiarity with.

The premise of the three books dives into the history of the D'ni people, Atrus' ancestors. Atrus, being the creator of the island of Myst from the game of the same name.

Through the novels you see the personal stories of three characters that were important to Atrus' history, whether directly or indirectly. You learn about the Art, which allowed them to "create" worlds, and about the fall of D'ni.

I highly recommend these novels to those that have played any or all of the Myst games, as it adds important back-story with interesting plot devices all wrapped in an imaginative world that encourages seeing the "whole" of things. Every time I read it I'm inspired to write again! Definitely a must-read!

Great series

This is a great series of books.

The series certainly is easier to understand if you have played the book series but it is not a prerequisite. They do a good job of fleshing out the world and painting a picture of what the charecters are like.

If you are going to read this series I, STRONGLY, recommend that you read it in chronological order. That is The Book of Ti'ana followed by The Book of Atrus and finishing with The Book of D'ni.

C'mon guys, please make The Book of Marrim, I am begging you!!

I loved the Book of Atrus

Long-time Myst fan here. I loved the Book of Atrus. I liked the Book of Ti'ana. But I quickly grew frustrated and then bored with the Book of D'ni. This last book in the trilogy suffers from one-dimensional characters, bizarre pacing, and a narrative that grows increasingly convoluted. I'm glad I read it and finished the trilogy, but I probably won't revisit the Book of D'ni if I go back to reread any of the Myst Reader.

I hear a fourth book called The Book of Marrim is stuck on a back-burner somewhere. I really hope that gets published and will hopefully give the titular character the airtime she was robbed of in Book of D'ni.

Despite my irritation with the Book of D'ni, I thoroughly enjoyed the Myst Reader. It's excellent backstory to the games and (for the most part) an enjoyable read in its own right.

Great Book for Novice Fundraisers

I believe this book is an excellent choice for the novice fundraiser. It can be overwhelming to know where to start, and how to approach certain donors for funds, no matter the cause.

Even if you are a seasoned writer who understands the gist of how to get the job done, it’s easy to go “blank” when you sit down and look at the page. This book removes all those hurdles, by providing templates for a variety of fundraising scenarios. Even though you will of course have to spend time customizing the letters to your situation, it provides the starting ground you need.

It’s definitely a great option for anyone who doesn’t consider themselves a writer, but doesn’t want their lack of skill to become a hurdle for their fundraising efforts. If you’d rather not use one of the templates provided in the book, there’s enough guidance in the beginning chapters to help you get the job done on your own. You can’t beat the wealth of knowledge presented here for the price. It will most definitely pay for itself in the long run.

This book will teach you way more than just how to write letters. It teaches sound marketing concepts too!

I've read a little more than 1/2 of the book so far and have picked up a TON of great information on how to write not only fundraising letters, but also how to write good marketing copy. They psychology be between sales copy and writing fundraising letters are very similar and this book is very helpful in giving in depth tips on how to do it.

I also love the structure and the way the author explains the letter writing flow. My wife works for a non-profit and I work in marketing. We both get so much value from this book. I'm recommending all my marketing staff read it so they can be better email marketers.

About the Author
Conrad Phillip Kottak (A.B. Columbia, 1963; Ph.D. Columbia, 1966) is Professor and Chair of Anthropology at the University of Michigan, where he has taught since 1968. In 1991 he was honored for his teaching by the University and the state of Michigan. In 1992 he received an excellence in teaching award from the College of Literature, Sciences, and the Arts of the University of Michigan. In 1999 the America Anthropological Association awarded Professor Kottak the AAA/Mayfield Award for Excellence in the Undergraduate Teaching of Anthropology.

Professor Kottak has done fieldwork in cultural anthropology in Brazil (since 1962), Madagascar (since 1966), and the United States. Conrad Kottak's articles have appeared in academic journals including American Anthropologist, Journal of Anthropological Research, American Ethnologist, Ethnology, Human Organization, and Luso-Brazilian Review. He has also written for more popular journals, including Transaction/SOCIETY, Natural History, Psychology Today, and General Anthropology.

In current research projects, Kottak and his colleagues have investigated the emergence of ecological awareness in Brazil, the social context of deforestation in Madagascar, and popular participation in economic development planning in northeastern Brazil.

Recently, Kottak was inducted to The National Academy of Sciences. This is a private organization of scientists and engineers dedicated to the furtherance of science and its use for the general welfare. .

Waste of money, poor editing, ridiculous promises

Any useful advice can be found in any book on blogging, as well as for free if you are willing to do a small amount of web searching.

I would have given the book a few more stars just for trying to be helpful, except for the apparent lack of editing (misspellings and incorrect grammar) and the outlandish expectations the author presents to the reader. We can all add and multiply, and should understand the basic idea that only a certain percentage of visitors to your site will purchase products. Stating how easy it is to have a person buy a $47 book or a $197 or $497 product is ridiculous. To quote the author: "If you have a course that sells for $497 then you only need to sell 11 of it to get to your goal!" Yes, there are websites able to charge these types of prices, but this level of success comes by having an incredible product or a proven track record.

Any other blogging book will give you the same rudimentary advice without the unrealistic promises.

Definitely Not an Actual "Plan" to Monetization of A Blog

I felt this book was very poorly put together. I found grammar and punctuation errors on nearly every page, and most of the actual "book" was consumed by screenshots we've all most likely seen already, if any experience is had. I have a lot of experience with blogging, journalism and correspondence and I feel like this book missed the mark is every way. While the tips are alright, this is basically an unedited mess that will end up wasting your time, versus actually providing you any informative tips, tricks or skills that you can actually implement. I was definitely disappointed with this one...

As it turned out, that might be the least of my problems. I’ve been tagged by hell.

Now every ugly, nasty being from hades was on my trail. I have suddenly became a magnet for demon disaster, and the only way I am getting out of this alive was by putting my life in the demon spawn’s hands.

One wrong decision and my butt was toast.

Its about a seventeen year old girl, Angel who moves to a small town with her mom where she befriends her not so ordinary neighbors, brother and sister Travis and Lexi and their cousin Chase. And its almost like hate at first for Chase and Angel. She knows there is something weird about the family, based on how people in town don't look at them and even refuse to speak to them. Then one night Angel follows an angered Chase into the woods where he reveals his family's secret. They are Divisa. Half demon half human. From there Angel is thrust into the dangers of their world while she and Chase fight their feelings for eachother. And boy do they. They can't be in the same room without fighting. I really liked that Angel is not a girly girl. She loves to play Xbox much to Lexi's disappointment, "a girl finally moves in next door and she has more in common with my brother". Chase is the bad boy with the bad attitude. And though he seems to have a stick up his butt at the beginning you come to understand his reason for pushing Angel away. Towards the end there is a bittersweet moment that definitely had me in tears. Then of course Chase being his stubborn self in which a line is delivered by Angel, "Only he could think of arguing with Death. Some things never change" had me smiling. I recommend this book to anyone looking for that story where the girl falls for the bad boy with the sexy smile and dark secret. And yes I did kind of find myself a bit weirded out as I rooted for the girl to get with the demon but hey its just a story. Its an awesome book with strong, funny characters. It does kind of fall similar to Twilight. With the girl following the brooding monster into the woods and demand to know what he's hiding, then tell him she's not afraid of him but it is different. Trust me. Worth purchasing.

Don't Waste Your Time

I never write reviews but this book was so bad I wanted to spare the next person thinking about spending their money or time. I made it about halfway through and couldn't stand it anymore. I felt like I wanted to pull out my red pencil and start correcting the mistakes. "HE WAS PRANCED READY TO ATTACK." Are you kidding me? As many others have noted, this is a VERY poor ripoff of Jennifer Armentrout's Lux series, which BTW I loved. I've become accustomed to typo's and slight grammatical errors with these indie ebooks, but I just couldn't make it through this one. It has no redeeming qualities.

Eerily Similar to Another Book

And by "similar", I mean almost copied exactly, for this seems like only the names and a few details are changed from the first of the Lux series, Obsidian, by Jennifer L. Armentrout. Obsidian I did very much enjoy, so to see a derivative version (fan-fiction?) is upsetting. Don't waste your time with this free book, go buy the better written original. You won't regret that purchase.
