excellent book

This is one of the book any engineer working in semiconductor should own. Even though it is not very specific about examples which can be used directly but it gives nice overview of SPC. It talks about fundamentals which is more important to learn. It gives some examples which any one can use as a comparision. The problems given at the end of chapters are really interesting and are helpful in understanding subject more.

Extremely realistic takes on the way humans interact.

Exceptionally vivid views of human relationships. The thing with Parker's stories is that you can't read them because you expect something to really happen. These aren't plot-filled action stories. Instead these are incredibly life-like thumbnail sketches of human interactions.

So don't try to read these when you're tired; they require your entire attention and you must think of them in terms of your own life. These feel more like transcripts of real conversations than they do fictional accounts.

Big Blonde a sad story

The star of these three stories is "Big Blonde", which is an unforgetable tale of quiet despair. The other two stories are along for the ride.
If you enjoy reading Dorothy Parker give the fiction of Dawn Powell consideration. She doesn't toss off one liners like Parker but her depiction of New Yorkers in the 1940's and 50's is very compelling reading.

About the Author
Michael Whitman, Ph.D., CISM, CISSP is a Professor of Information Security at Kennesaw State University, Kennesaw, Georgia, where he is also the Executive Director of the KSU/Coles College of Business Center for Information Security Education. In 2004, 2007, 2012 and 2015, under his direction the Center for Information Security Education spearheaded KSU's successful bid for the prestigious National Center of Academic Excellence recognitions (CAE/IAE and CAE IA/CD) awarded by the Department of Homeland Security and the National Security Agency. Dr. Whitman is also the Editor-in-Chief of the Information Security Education Journal, and Director of the Southeast Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition. Dr. Whitman is an active researcher and author in Information Security Policy, Threats, and Curriculum Development, as well as Ethical Computing. He currently teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in Information Security. Dr. Whitman has several information security textbooks currently in print - Principles of Information Security, 5th Ed., Management of Information Security, 5th Ed., Readings and Cases in the Management of Information Security, Volumes I and II, The Hands-On Information Security Lab Manual, 4th Ed., Principles of Incident Response and Disaster Recovery, 2nd Ed., The Guide to Network Security and The Guide to Firewalls and Network Security, 3rd Ed. all from Cengage Learning. He has published articles in Information Systems Research, the Communications of the ACM, the Journal of International Business Studies, Information and Management, and the Journal of Computer Information Systems. Dr. Whitman is a member of the Association for Computing Machinery, the Information Systems Security Association, ISACA and the Association for Information Systems. Prior to coming to academia, Dr. Whitman was an officer in the U.S. Army, where he had the responsibilities of ADPSSO (Automated Data Processing System Security Officer).

Herbert Mattord, Ph.D., CISM, CISSP completed 24 years of IT industry experience as an application developer, database administrator, project manager, and information security practitioner before joining the faculty at Kennesaw State University, where he is Assistant Chair of the Department of Information Systems and Associate Professor of Information Security and Assurance program. Dr. Mattord currently teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in Information Security & Assurance as well as Information Systems. He and Michael Whitman are the authors of Principles of Information Security, 5th Ed, Management of Information Security, 5th Ed, Readings and Cases in the Management of Information Security, Principles of Incident Response and Disaster Recovery, 2nd Ed, The Guide to Network Security, and The Hands-On Information Security Lab Manual, 4th Ed all from Cengage Learning. Dr. Mattord is an active researcher and author in Information Security Management and related topics. He has published articles in the Information Resources Management Journal, Journal of Information Security Education, the Journal of Executive Education, and the International Journal of Interdisciplinary Telecommunications and Networking. Dr. Mattord is a member of the Information Systems Security Association, ISACA, and the Association for Information Systems. During his career as an IT practitioner, Dr. Mattord was an adjunct professor at Kennesaw State University, Southern Polytechnic State University in Marietta, Georgia, Austin Community College in Austin, Texas, and Texas State University: San Marcos. He was formerly the Manager of Corporate Information Technology Security at Georgia-Pacific Corporation, where much of the practical knowledge found in this and other textbooks was acquired.

Andrew Green, M.S.I.S., is a lecturer of information security and assurance in the CSIS department at Kennesaw State University and a research associate with the KSU Center for Information Security Education and Awareness. He was also one of the principal designers of the Southeast Collegiate Cyberdefense Competition, hosted annually by KSU. Before entering academia full-time, Green worked for 10 years as an information security professional, primarily as a consultant to small and medium-sized businesses, as well as a healthcare IT specialist. In the latter role, he developed and supported transcription interfaces for medical facilities throughout the United States. Green is also a full-time Ph.D. student at Nova Southeastern University, where he is studying information systems with a concentration in information security, as well as the co-author of multiple books published by Course Technology.

Great For Cybersecurity Professionals

I am taking a graduate course at UMBC in Cybersecurity and this is the first book that I would recommend as a good overall explanation of the field of Incident Response and Disaster Recovery. In a lot of cyber scenarios today, recognition and reaction to an incident is one of the most key aspects in ensuring business continuity. This book covers many of those aspects and will certainly be a text I keep with me through much of my career.

If you like to watch drying paint and long periods of awkward silence, this is the book for you! To be fair the authors have done the best they probably can to stretch material that should be a seminar into a semester's worth of reading. For those of you that learn by repetition, you are going to love the canned lectures that your professor will probably follow! The perfect cure for insomnia!

This book mirrors the new curriculum well, and is laid out in a nice order. But the book is riddled with errors. There are errors in the main text (for example, one of the trig identities has a typo) and the answer key is often incorrect. What appears to have happened is that there must have been a preliminary text - the online answer key will show a slightly different problem being worked out than the actual book. To get the answer in the back of the book requires seeing the altered problem online. It would have been a great book, but the editors were clearly asleep. Not sure who was supposed to check through all the work, but with that many authors, you would think one of them would have caught the myriad mistakes.

Satirical but informative

I have this as an audio book and I find it both funny and informative. The reason the Masons are mentioned so often is because they are the most well known. If you really want to start your own secret society and need a book to tell you how to do it, you probably don't need to start a secret society!

How to smash the system from the inside

This is the sort of book I shouldn't like. It deals with secret societies, conspiracy theories and other Dan Brownesque inanities. Yawn. But Harding has pulled off quite a feat by making such material a riveting read. How?

Harding's 'way into' the topic is neither one of historical fact-finding nor contemporary exposé. Rather, as the title indicates, this is a "how to" book, in this case, how to start a secret society of your own. Ridiculous? Actually, rather brilliant, if not to say unique. If you, like me, would love to start up your own secret society, then this is the closest to a manual you could find. All issues of why, what and how are covered in practical detail. Bravo!

Some of Hardy's scattered insights are really rather fine. For instance, he covers why the formation of secret societies has always been a predominantly male occupation (11, 75), or how the impetus to join is partially a quest for personal meaning and/or advancement (93-94), and the pleasure of being part of self-styled elite (139-140). As the nature of the book is functional and satirical, there is no extended discussion of the theories behind such phenomena; neither, here, should there be.

Harding writes like a precocious sixth former editing the school rag. He is all irony and irreverence. In fact, one of his interesting points is that many of those who started secret societies shared exactly this same attitude. They wanted to raise merry hell and poke a finger at those in charge. Such a playful perspective allows Harding to empathise with those about whom he writes all the while treating his subject matter lightly.

But here is where Harding comes slightly undone and robs himself of the full five stars. Irreverence is one thing, irrelevance another. Harding takes every opportunity to equate secret societies with mainstream religion, even inserting his own personal diatribes in the form of footnotes (38, 84). Serious Richard Dawkins is somehow introduced (55 - not in the index) detracting from the light, fun-loving tone of the rest of the book. If I had wanted a book on atheism...

Now that I'm all clued up to start up my own secret society, it won't concern itself with matters of divinity, but with another more pressing dichotomy: book worms versus computer nerds. If you don't believe me that a literature based society is fundamentally different in values and skills from a technocratic one, please read Neil Postman and Nicholas Carr. "But Allen, aren't you using a computer at this very second to write your review and then post it online?" Ah, but just like the best secret societies, I'm smashing the system from the inside.

Can I have the 20 minutes back?

The 20 minutes I am requesting is the time it took me to realize that the only thing worth reading in this book is the title.

It SOUNDS like a great idea, lots of fun, etc.; in the end it is a quick history of the Masons and some tongue-in-cheek digs at those who join such groups.

It would be worth it if there was even a single laugh involved, but sadly, the author took the subject matter WAY too seriously.

A fun romantic comedy with engaging conversation

Same Time Next Year is a romantic, whimsical, and fun comedy where two people meet for one February weekend each year for an adulterous affair. The meetings begin in 1951 and end in 1975. They don't carry on a relationship outside this weekend, not even phone calls, so the events in their lives are new to each other. For the reader, we get the sense of the yearly distance.

From New Jersey, 27 year old accountant George refers to his life as a brown-thumb. Doing the books for a friend in the California wine business, he met 25 year old Doris who lives in Oakland with a moderate stay--at-home life; each have spouses and six kids between them.

The entire action takes place in a cottage room outside San Francisco. After their liaison, George and Doris discuss partners, career changes, kids, impotence, pregnancy, sexuality, politics, etc. They have a pact that they will share a couple of good stories and couple of bad stories about each other's spouses. We get a good look at George's attitude and life changes too.

Written by Bernard Slade, known for television comedy creations; this play can easily transfer to film, which did star Alan Alda and Ellen Burstyn. It has subtle humor, and to me, is reminiscent of a Neil Simon play.

Two actors must carry this entire play, plus, they need to age within time as it's chapters are chronologically that begins in 1951 thru 1971, a long time. As you read through the ages, it's clear that the characters encounter life changing elements. The reader gets clear idea of the time, when historic references are made. This is excellent!! .....Rizzo
